Conduit wins Ladbrokes St Leger (Gr1)
13 Sep 2008
CONDUIT (by Dalakhani ex Well Head) wins the Ladbrokes St Leger (Gr1) at Doncaster by three lengths. Given a perfect ride by Frankie Dettori, Conduit always travelled smoothly and hit the front with over two furlongs to travel. He stayed on well to line despite coming under some pressure from Unsung Heroine, who finished second with Look Here a place further back in third. It was Ballymacoll's second time to win the oldest classic, with Sun Princess having won the race back in 1983.
This win continues a vintage year for Ballymacoll on the racetrack, with Conduit's win being the twelfth out of only fifty one runs, nearly a one in four average. Ballymacoll horses have been especially impressive in group races. Out of seven races they have four wins, one second, one third and one fourth.
Conduit has become Ballymacoll's twenty seventh individual Group 1 winner. The number of Group 1 wins now stands at forty eight, with seven winners of nine classic races. This win also continues the incredible record Sir Michael Stoute has for Ballymacoll. He has trained ten individual Group 1 winners of nineteen Group 1 races. These include two Breeders Cup wins (Pilsudski and Islington), and three classic winners (Golan, North Light and Conduit).
