Sought Out

23 May 2008

Ballymacoll Stud are sad to report that SOUGHT OUT (Rainbow Quest ex Edinburgh) died in the early hours of the morning due to complications arising from foaling. The twenty year old mare foaled her tenth foal, a bay filly by Oasis Dream, yesterday evening.

Sought Out was bred by Ballymacoll and raced in the colours of Lord Weinstock. She was trained at 2 and 3 by Sir Michael Stoute, where she won twice including Prix de Lutece Gr3. She then moved to France where she was trained by John Hammond. A specialist on soft ground, she won a further three times, all at group level. Her biggest success came in 1992 Ciga Prix Du Cadran Gr1, which she won by four lengths.

At stud she proved equally effective, with five out her seven foals that went into training, winning races. COVER UP (by Machiavellian) proved a very hardy and consistent competitor. Despite suffering a career threatening injury he returned to the track, and deserved his two Gr3 wins that finally came at the age of eight. RESEARCHED (by Danehill) provided Sought Out with her second black type winner, before joining Ben Cecil to race in America.

It was Researched's full brother NORTH LIGHT who fullfilled Sought Out's promise as a broodmare. He won the totesport Dante Stakes Gr2, before going on to capture the 2004 Vodafone Derby Stakes Gr1 at Epsom. Unfortunately injury ended North Light's career at four after just one run, he currently stands as a stallion at Adena Springs in Kentucky.

Sought Out's daughter SEEKING KALI (by Kalanisi) had her first foal, a bay colt by Invincible Spirit on 4th March and visits Medicean. Her only progeny currently in training is DANCER IN DEMAND (by Danehill Dancer, trained by Sir Michael Stoute), who ran a promising third, first time out in a maiden, on 17th May at Newbury.
