Origin of Name: The title of Fruehling or Frühling (spring) was given to Robert Schumann’s Symphony No.1 in B flat major. He was inspired by his Liebesfrühling (spring of love) and the very opening of the symphony, the “call of spring” motif, matches the rhythm of the first lines of a Spring poem by D. Adolph Boettger.
